First time working with fused glass!

First time working with fused glass!

Welcome to my colorful little slice of the blogosphere. I have good intentions for this space, though I suppose that’s how I feel when I embark on most endeavors. I hope to use this blog as a virtual studio of sorts: sharing my progress on various projects, showing off the finished ones, and just generally talking about my artistic process.

I’m an artist and finally have no qualms about labeling myself as such. Art is such a personal and intimate thing; 10 people can look at a single piece, be it a painting or photograph or sculpture or craft, and find completely different meanings or react in completely different ways. I know not everyone will appreciate or understand what I create, but I’ve reached a point in my life where I’m okay with that.

The joy I find in playing around with ideas, trying new materials and techniques, and expanding my skills is more than enough for me. I’m up for trying anything once and often teach myself how to do something new from books or the internet. Once I’ve learned the basics of a certain kind of art, I love to branch out and start subtly altering or supplementing what the instructions or pattern says to create something entirely different. And I’m a big fan of that nebulous term, “mixed media”. For even more specifics about what I like to do, let me suggest this page.

My professional life doesn’t involve much in the way of artistic expression, so the time I spend in the studio is usually in the early weekday evenings and long weekend afternoons. I would be thrilled to do my art as a living, being able to support myself by creating things that are so rewarding and cathartic. But I’m working my way there, dipping a toe in the water with My Etsy and trying out a few local craft fairs. I truly believe there are wonderful things in store for Pockets McGee’s Workshop.

So … take a look around, feel free to comment on posts and photos, add me to your RSS feed and check back regularly. I hope you enjoy what I create and find your own creative drive and the means to express it.
